Sustainable pace training events, workshops, talks, and coaching

Most people in knowledge-intensive roles feel like they're constantly behind — juggling too many commitments, struggling to focus, and ending the day exhausted without being sure they moved anything meaningful forward. This is not a personal failing, but a structural problem.

What it’s about

Sustainable Pace in Knowledge Work is a research-backed, practical body of work that helps individuals and teams understand why knowledge work is so demanding — and what they can actually do about it. The way modern knowledge work is organised, designed and approached is a root cause for ineffectiveness, lackluster productivity, exhaustion, and burnout. By focusing on these issues, we can improve outcomes for both organisations and individuals.

It starts with the science and what everyone needs to understand about our brains: the limitations of working memory, what happens when we're constantly interrupted or juggling too many open tasks, and why the vicious cycle of stress and exhaustion is so hard to break. This matters because understanding why something doesn't work is what makes practical changes stick.

From there, we work through the six principles of sustainable pace — a practical framework that forms a theory of effectiveness for modern-day knowledge work. The principles are grounded in research, but the focus is always on what's actionable: what you can actually try when you get back to your desk.

Who it’s for

Finding ways to work at a sustainable pace is valuable for any knowledge worker — software developers, researchers, consultants, managers, analysts, project managers, or anyone whose job involves sustained thinking, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making.

It's especially relevant when:

  • Your team is stretched thin and struggling to deliver quality work consistently

  • People feel perpetually busy but aren't sure what they're actually accomplishing

  • Burnout or disengagement is becoming a concern

  • You want to address wellbeing and performance at the same time, not trade one for the other

What participants get

  • A clearer understanding of why knowledge work is cognitively demanding, and what that means for how work should be organised

  • Practical approaches for managing tasks, focus, and energy more intentionally

  • Planning and prioritisation that is based on realism instead of wishful thinking

  • Familiarity with six concrete principles they can apply immediately — individually and as a team

  • A shared language for talking about workload and sustainability within their organisation

For organisations, the benefits compound: when people work in a more sustainable way, quality improves, coordination gets easier, and the constant churn of reactive, fragmented work starts to slow down.

How we can work together

The same core content — the science of knowledge work, the six principles, practical tools — can be delivered in several different ways depending on what fits your situation. If you're not sure which format is right, get in touch and we'll figure it out together.

Training events

  • Half-day session

  • 3-4 hours

  • Live or online

  • Any group size

A structured, facilitated session covering the full sustainable pace framework. Includes group discussion, reflection exercises, and a method for planning and tracking improvement experiments — so participants leave with a concrete next step, not just a new perspective.

  • 3 hours works well when the session is open to a broader group across a larger organisation. The focus is on individual insight and personal takeaways.

  • 4 hours is recommended for a single team, a small organisation, or an organisational unit. The shared context makes it possible to go deeper: discussing challenges together, identifying patterns specific to how your team works, and beginning to think collectively about what sustainable pace would look like in your situation.

Pricing: 2 750 € + 300 € for every 10th participant (for example, an event with 25 participants would cost 2 750 + 300 + 300 = 3 350 €) + VAT.

Workshops

  • Half-day session

  • Live only

  • Up to 20 participants

A workshop combines an introduction to sustainable pace with participant-led discussion using the Lean Coffee method. After a shared foundation is established, the group decides together which topics to dive into — whatever's most relevant to their actual situation. This makes workshops particularly good when a team wants to move from awareness to action, or when there are specific tensions around workload, focus, or collaboration that would benefit from structured conversation.

Pricing: 3 350 € + VAT.

Talks

  • 45-90 minutes

  • Live or online

  • Any audience size

A keynote or talk on sustainable pace — the problem, the science behind it, and an overview of what better looks like. Well-suited to conferences, company all-hands, team days, or any setting where you want to shift how people think about knowledge work without committing to a longer session. The shorter format means we only have time for an overview of the six principles, but participants leave with a clear picture of the problem and a framework for thinking about it.

Pricing: 2 350 € + 100 € for every 10th participant (for example, with an audience of 25 people, the cost would be 2 350 + 100 + 100 = 2 550 €) + VAT. A 500 € + VAT surcharge will be added if the talk is recorded for wider distribution.

Coaching

Coaching is more focused than a training or workshop. The sustainable pace principles and practices serve as a framework, but the work is about your specific situation: what's getting in the way, what you've already tried, and what a realistic next step looks like. Well-suited to individuals who want to work through their own patterns, small teams navigating a particular challenge, or leadership teams thinking about how to make their organisation more sustainable.

The goal of the kickoff session is to establish goals, to gain understanding of the current situation, and to agree on mutual ways of working. The follow-up coaching sessions are focused on concrete experiments, interventions, and learning by doing.

Pricing: 3 150 € + VAT (includes the kickoff and the first five coaching sessions). Additional coaching sessions for 280 € a piece, + VAT.

  • 2h kickoff + commitment to a minimum of 5 coaching sessions

  • Individual coaching sessions up to 1h in length

  • Live or online

  • Individuals, small teams, or leadership teams
